Baroque (buh-roke)-- From 1600 to the mid-1700s. among Baroque Composers were J.S. Bach (Brandenburg Concertos, The Well-Tempered Clavier), Handel (Water Music,Music for the Royal Fireworks) , Telemann (Paris Quartets), Vivaldi (The Four Seasons, LŽestro Armonico).
Classical -- from the mid 1700s to the mid 1800s. Among classical composers were Mozart ("Jupiter" Symphony, Exsultate Jubilate), Haydn ("The Clock", "Drum Roll" Symphonies), Boccherini (Minuet), Beethoven (Symphony #3, "Eroica", "Emperor" Concerto),and Gluck (Dance of the Blessed Spirits).
Romantic-- from the mid 1800s to 1900. Composers of the Romantic era included Brahms (Academic Festival Overture, Variations on a Theme of Haydn),Dvorak, (Slavonic Dances, New World Symphony), Schumann ("Spring", "Rhenish" Symphonies), Tchaikovsky (1812 Overture, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet) and Chopin (Piano Concertos #1, 2, "Heroic Polonaise, "Minute" Waltz.).
20th Century-- from 1900-2001. Composers of this era include Stravinsky (Pulchinella Suite, The Firebird), Copland (Rodeo, Appalachian Spring), Kodaly (Hary Janos Suite, Galanta Dances), Ravel (Bolero, Mother Goose suite) Satie (Gymnopedies 1-3).
Contemporary-- Composers living and working today. includes John Adams (Short Ride in a Fast Machine, the Chairman Dances), Michael Torke (Blue, Run, Adjustable Wrench), Henryk Gorecki (Symphony #3,The Symphony OF Sorrowful Songs) John Corigliano (The Red Violin), and Harvey Gray (Concerto Antico) .
