Five Grammy nominations for Phoenix Bach Choir

Congratulations to the Phoenix Bach Choir and the Kansas City Chorale for the nominations their recording of Grechaninov on the Chandos label which received five nominations for Grammy awards. The choirs share director Charles Bruffy who combines his “Desert” and “Heartland” choral groups to record for Chandos. When He was asked by the Kansas City Star for a reaction to the news Bruffy said, “I’m glad I’m sitting down!”

The nominations for classical recordings were announced yesterday (December 6th) at 9:30 Arizona time and the nominations fro the Bach Choir’s Grechaninov: Passion Week are these:

  • Best Classical Album
  • Best Choral Performance
  • Best Engineered Album, Classical
    (John Newton)
  • Best Surround Sound Album
    (John Newton, Jonathan Cooper, Blanton Alspaugh)
  • Producer of the Year, Classical (Blanton Alspaugh)

The awards will be announced February 10, 2008, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The combined choirs and Bruffy also released “Shakespeare in Song” on Chandos in September of 2004 and a new release Rheinberger: Sacred Choral Works is available now.
