Beethoven's 9th: 200th Anniversary

Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 is a masterpiece of western classical music. The work is particularly famous for its choral finale, often simply called the "Ode to Joy."

Beethoven's Ninth premiered May 7, 1824, in Vienna, with many of that city's most notable musicians, including Franz Schubert, in attendance. When the symphony ended, the audience stood and waved hankerchiefs and hats so that Beethoven, who by this point in his life was almost completely deaf, could see their approval.

Tune in to KBACH, May 7 at 9AM, and imagine yourself seated in the audience 200 years ago as we play the Vienna Philharmonic performing Beethoven's masterful Ninth.
